Luxury in a UK lodge means four things: floor-to-ceiling glass, a working log burner with a stocked basket, a private tub heated on arrival, and a kitchen a household can actually cook in. Everything else is marketing. Prices at this tier run £280 to £480 a night. Below, three lodges that earn the premium.
Three we would book
Forest Holidays Golden Oak Treehouse, Blackwood. Elevated cabin in the canopy, sleeps 6 to 8, private tub on the deck, log fire. Verdict: the standard-setter, and the reason the premium tier exists. Price band £340 to £480 a night. Hot tub Y.
Airhouses, Scottish Borders. Architect-designed cabins with private wood-fired outdoor hot tub, log burner, forest walking. Verdict: the design-led pick if the drive to Scotland is doable. Price band £320 to £460 a night. Hot tub Y.
Whitbarrow Village Gold Fell, Lake District. Top-grade lodge with private tub, log fire, restaurant on site. Verdict: the county-safe premium pick, unfussy and reliable. Price band £290 to £420 a night. Hot tub Y.
Three tips before you book
Book mid-week Wednesday to Sunday: the weekend arrival premium at this tier is £180 to £300. Confirm the log basket is stocked (it should be included at this price). Ask which cabin numbers face away from access roads.
