The Cotswolds Water Park does most of the heavy lifting for hot-tub cabin inventory in this county, and prices reflect it. £210 to £290 a night in shoulder season, £280 to £380 during school holidays. The upside: 90 minutes from London on a good day and the villages of Bibury, Bourton and Stow within a 40-minute drive. The independents around Stroud offer a cheaper mid-tier, if you can find one that heats the tub on Friday.

Three we would book

Lower Mill Estate, Cotswolds Water Park. Architect-designed lakeside cabins, sleeps 4 to 8, private tub, spa on site. Verdict: the design-led pick if the budget stretches. Price band £280 to £420 a night. Hot tub Y.

Spring Lakes, South Cerney. Cabin park on the Water Park’s south edge, sleeps 6, private tub, watersports on site. Verdict: family sweet spot for a summer week. Price band £220 to £310 a night. Hot tub Y.

Deer Park Lodges, Chipping Norton fringe. Independent small park in Cotswold hills, sleeps 4, private tub, walking from the door. Verdict: the honest mid-tier couples’ pick. Price band £190 to £250 a night. Hot tub Y.

Three tips before you book

Avoid bank holidays: Bourton-on-the-Water is coach-tour dense. Confirm parking numbers at Lower Mill (some cabins get one bay only). Book Wednesday to Sunday to duck the Friday A417 tailback.
