Forest Holidays Thorpe Forest

Park review · Forest Holidays

Thorpe Forest sits inside Thetford Forest in south Norfolk, the largest lowland pine forest in the UK. 80 cabins across the standard Forest Holidays grade set. 40 minutes to Norwich, 25 minutes to Bury St Edmunds, 90 minutes to Cambridge. The drive from north London is 2 hours 15 on a good day, 3 hours on a Friday. Birding and cycling are the sell.

Three cabins worth knowing

Golden Oak 3, east cluster. Sleeps 6, private tub, faces pine ride. Verdict: the couples-plus-friends pick. Price band £240 to £320 a night. Hot tub Y.

Golden Oak 5, south cluster. Sleeps 8, private tub, closest cabin to the birding hide. Verdict: the family-plus-grandparents pick. Price band £280 to £380 a night. Hot tub Y.

Silver Birch 3, central. Sleeps 4, private tub on this grade. Verdict: honest mid-week couples’ base. Price band £200 to £270 a night. Hot tub Y.

Three tips before you book

Hire the on-site bikes for the day: the forest trails are the best cycling in East Anglia. Bring binoculars in April to June for warblers and nightjars at dusk. Ask about cabins near the small watercourse (mosquitoes in July).
